I am
Laurel Heske

I am Laurel Heske, a web/UX designer living and working in the greater Boston area. I graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Marketing Communications and have over 20 years of life experience in all aspects of graphic design.

I approach all projects by first understanding the business needs and the target audience. Design is not about making something look "pretty". It is about leveraging design to influence behavior and emotion.

My expertise

I am truly a balance of left and right brain. I can take a project from visual concept all the way through to html and css execution.

SEO, performance, branding, usability and user experience always play a part in my solutions. Visual aesthetics are the icing.

MathWorks:
MATLAB Product Page

web

The MathWorks product pages were very text-heavy and read more like a technical document than a Web page. We decided to focus our efforts on MATLAB, the company's flagship product. The goal of this project was to modernize the look and feel and to make it easier for the visitor to scan and digest the message in smaller chunks that led to a clear call to action.

I was involved from content development all the way through development and publishing.

The redesign resulted in a 17% increase in time spent on the page as well as a 63% increase in inquiries.

MATLAB Expo

The MathWorks events team required a redesign of their conference and event page templates. They were previously set up as five to six-page text-heavy sites.

I took the existing messaging and transformed the page into a single overview page that followed a sequence that visitors could easily find what they they needed to lead them to the decision to register.
